Abbé Brémond Ensemble
A Poet's Night Travels Across Europe

The interwar artistic avant-garde movement turned its attention to the film and its expressive and compositional possibilities, especially to the locomotion and editing, and to the ability to lead different narrative or imaginary lines at the same time, confronting and integrating them. The directors used to make pictorial poems as the new climax of visual arts and the writers to create ideal screenplays for new films. In the period after the end of the terrible First World War and in anticipation of similar international conflict, these works appeared ambiguous: as an explosion of joy from the newly illuminated ways, and as a warning shake with surviving conventions capable of causing similar mass sufferings. We live in a resembling period.
Even in today's decreasing calm it is possible to recognize similar manifestations of the general danger that reveals the seeming peace as a truce.
On its present, pre-war album Abbé Brémond Ensemble builds on this avant-garde legacy. A Poet's Night Travels Across Europe is a soundtrack to a non-existent film (a musical attempt on a pattern for a new film similar to those ones by the avant-garde poets). It depicts the image of today's European civilization and reveals the manifestations of human action that wakens anxiety and justifiable to expect the worst: no longer a truce under the mask of peace, but a war itself under the mask of an unarmed truce.
At the end of one December evening the Poet miraculously is emerging in the shadows of the park in the contemporary European city. As a child, he enters the world behind the gate of the garden, without memory, without any experience, he perceives it inexorably, immediately and unconditionally, with astonishment and horror. The night city is bleak, alienated and insensitive. He meets only with manifestations of indifference, misery and suffering and he can not relate them to any cause: they are just as he is - but who are they all and what is their world ?! Beggars, prostitutes, violent men, drunkards, exploiting and exploited. From a devastated playground he walks through the slum to the center, and its path culminates in a nonstop shopping center full of people who do not know each other, who do not react in any way. They do not smile. They do not see. The poet walks through it, the floor behind the floor, as he finds himself on the roof of the building, staring at the stars glittering with frosty brightness over the unbounded universal city flooded by the light pollution.

Básník na noční cestě Evropou

Meziválečná umělecká avantgarda obracela častěji svou pozornost k filmu a jeho výrazovým a skladebným možnostem, především k pohybu a střihu a možnosti vést současně různé vypravěčské či obrazivé linie, konfrontovat i celit je. Režiséři točili obrazové básně dovádějící dosavadní cesty výtvarného umění k novým – pohyblivým – možnostem a spisovatelé vytvářeli ideální scénáře nových filmů.
Žebráci, nevěstky, násilníci, opilci, vykořisťující a vykořisťovaní.
