Hommage à Ezra Pound

Cathay is a historical English name for China and Ezra Pound named by it his book of translations of ancient Chinese poetry. The last work of our garden orchestra attempts of expressing the same by its own means: it tries to evoke the atmosphere of a distant oriental country as the poems by its ancient poets convey it. An extraordinary attention to the various air, water, and luminous effects, making up the depicted environment, is characteristic for these verses, catching the nature. It is the atmosphere that unites the unique natural pictures in one inseparable living world. Although the poems capture numerous material manifestations, the mood surrounding them is airy and free. And this freedom acts on the reader and, in particular, on the Western one, unable to be astonished. This lyrical poetry arouses pleasure and melancholy in him, because it describes a world in which he could enter himself, but he cannot. Welcome to China.

Cathay je historickým anglickým označením Číny a Ezra Pound tímto slovem pojmenoval svou sbírku překladů starobylé čínské poezie. Poslední práce našeho zahradního orchestru se pokouší svými vlastními výrazovými prostředky o totéž: navodit atmosféru vzdálené orientální země, jak ji zprostředkovávají básně jejích dávných básníků. Pro tyto verše, častěji tematizující přírodu, je totiž charakteristická jejich mimořádná pozornost k nejrůznějším vzdušným, vodním a světelným zjevům dotvářejícím líčená prostředí. Právě atmosféra jednotí tato přírodní líčení v jeden nedílný svět, v němž je vše sžito. Jakkoliv básně zachycují četné hmotné zjevy, nálada obestírající je, je vzdušná, tedy svobodná, a také svobodnost, volnost této lyriky účinkuje na čtenáře, a zvláště toho západního, neschopného údivu, který by otřásl jeho navyklým hlediskem: vyvolává v něm libost i melancholii, líčí-li mu svět, do něhož by mohl sám vstoupit, ale nedokáže to. Vítejte v Číně.
