The Sundays of the Sky Rider contemplates the moments of inner calming of pilot of the 311th Czechoslovak Bombing Squadron RAF (№ 311 Bombing Squadron), moments in which memories of a distant homeland blend with those of the experiences of the last days and in which the sounding of those free moments (for example those of Sunday) diffuse. The tension between the man's mission and the actual moments presents both vision and foretaste of peace and considers the chosen paradoxical path of struggle that can lead to it. It is not, of course, the illusion of twenty minutes of contested calm, but the overlapping experiences of these relaxed hours, which form their own reality, the impression of painstakingly woven security in a time of unrelenting unrest. The free days merge into a kind of dreamlike flow, which leads to a different heavenly atmosphere than the dangerous one, into which the airplanes will soon take off again.
The composition, which does not deny its inspiration in Filip Janský's novel Sky Riders (and in the film of the same name), is based on a field recording of the broadcast of the exile radio play “I was shot down over France”, which was broadcast on the BBC by Ota Ornest and Josef Červinka in 1942. Ká extracted from this recording quiet sections and noises and composed sub-sequences from them as an ideal studies of the atmosphere of that time, and continued to work with them and composed a whole from them, which he further intervened with musical and electronic layers, strengthening the impression of personal seclusion.

Bio:
Abbé Brémond Ensemble
Avant-garde chamber orchestra dedicated to Henri Bremond’s idea of pure poetry and founded by Ká in 2003 in Prague as the collective creative space forming context for various musical, art and literary works. Main programme was formulated as "poésie pure – free improvisation – site specific – ambient – noisilence – land(e)scapes". Between the years 2003 and 2007 ABE published (mostly in private editions) ten records (with Ká's solo electro-acoustic compositions, vocal and orchestral works, free improvisations etc.) and performed a few site specific actions and private concerts. Most of these projects were inspired by individual literary works (Sylvia Plath, Tove Jansson, Andrej Stankovič, Paul Laforgue, Čingiz Ajtmatov, Josef Váchal). In 2007 the ensemble abandoned its pursuit and came back in 2014. With new inspiration of ideas of Elias Canetti and his esthetics of metamorphosis and his cult of atmosphere the ensemble found new aims and turned more to Life and Love and Nature. All the previous work of ABE was republished on Recordings On the Road and new records are releasing on it too.

Recordings On the Road Czech Republic

Collective publishing project of a few kindred musicians, flowing outside (on periphery or in underground) the Czech music happening and mostly devoted themselves to alternative rock or avantgarde music. Stylistically diverse is united by a similar attitude to music perceived not as a medium, but as the way, autonomous and eminently participating on our lives, on our road. ... more
